For diverse communities\, it has put a stark spotlight on the massive disparities they face in health conditions\, access to care and further emphasized the need to pay more attention to the social determinants of health. Compounding the coronavirus challenges\, horrifying acts of racism and violence against people of color were publicly exposed\, putting yet another spotlight on inequities that have existed in our country for centuries and establishing without a doubt\, that racism is a public health crisis. \nAs the pandemic merged individual and societal needs\, providers\, healthcare leaders\, insurance companies\, government and citizens did what had to be done despite all of the existing barriers. The entire healthcare community came together to innovate and effectively transform care as never before. Healthcare organizations focused on mission\, temporarily disregarding the skyrocketing treatment expenses and loss of revenue that are significantly impacting their financial viability. We also witnessed daily humanism and heroism in every community and organization. Doctors\, nurses\, provider teams\, support staff and essential workers rose to the challenge\, putting their own lives and health in jeopardy beyond normal limits. \nThe uncertainty of the crisis bred innovation and caused major transformations in the healthcare system. As healthcare leaders where do we go from here? Will we revert to old methods or will this moment provide the catalyst to make meaningful change and re-imagine a health system that truly provides exceptional health to all regardless of race\, creed\, gender\, sexual orientation\, religion or economic circumstances and that focuses on the things that really matter? \nThis conference will explore: \n— Why we must redesign our healthcare system and what this will take.\n— What leading organizations\, states and countries are doing to provide superior care to all at a lower cost.\n— How government\, payors\, providers\, and regulatory bodies can facilitate a redesigned healthcare system.\n— The changing expectations and demands of patients and the public.\n— A roadmap for the healthcare system of the future. \n\nJoin us at this remarkable point in history and support meaningful change.  \nIf you missed the first session\, you can still register to watch the other two live and receive Session 1 on demand!\nREGISTRATION NOW LIVE –\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER! \nACHE\, MHA and NESHS MEMBERS: $49.00\nSTUDENTS: $25.00\nNON-MEMBERS: $99.00\nCo-sponsored by the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association \n \n\nSession Details and Speakers: \nSession 1 – Tuesday\, November 10\, 2020\n5:00 pm – 7:00 pm\nClosing the Racial and Socioeconomic Divide:  Re-imagining a Healthcare Delivery System that Addresses the Needs of All Americans\nTo kick-off our series\, Session 1 will feature a diversity\, equity and inclusion virtual roundtable discussion featuring: \n \n \nThis session will also feature our 2nd Annual Diversity and Inclusion Award! \nClick here to view the full agenda for November 10 and speaker bios!\n\nSession 2 – Tuesday\, November 17\n5:00 pm – 7:00 pm\nClosing the Innovation Gap:  How COVID-19 Will Accelerate Digital Transformation and Drive a More Value-Driven Approach to Healthcare Delivery\n \nThis session will cover: \n-Different models of healthcare that other industrialized nations are providing and if there is a system that the United States should consider replicating. \n-Lessons learned from other countries who had different approaches in their COVID-19 response and had better health outcomes. \n-How epidemiological surveillance data is used to improve public health systems in this country. \n-What providers can be doing to prepare for the changes coming in our healthcare system. \n-The potential impact that big data can have on improving healthcare\, targeting of disease prevention and health promotion\, and reducing cost. \nClick here to view the full agenda for November 17 and speaker bios!\n\nSession 3 – Tuesday\, December 1\n5:00 pm – 7:00 pm\nClosing the Payment Gap:  Fundamental Transformation in Healthcare Delivery is Predicated on Innovation in Payment Models\nThis session will feature a closing keynote presented by:  \nDr. Farzad Mostashari\, CEO of Aledade\n \nClick here to view the full agenda for December 1 and speaker bio!

SUMMARY:Embracing a Dialogue about Gender Equity and Intersectionality: A Virtual Face to Face Credit Session
DESCRIPTION:As healthcare consumers become more demographically diverse\, healthcare leaders seek to recruit and retain talent from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Gaining an understanding of intersectionality will equip leaders to build and retain team members across difference and in ways that establish common ground and cultivate inclusive cultures of belonging. The concept of intersectionality recognizes that everyone has multiple identities that intersect and influence how we view ourselves and interact with others. Learning how to effectively apply intersectionality principles will help organizations move beyond the one-dimensional aspects of traditional diversity\, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. \nIn the drive for gender equity\, healthcare leaders have acknowledged the need for fully inclusive gender equity that recognizes the intersectionality of race\, ethnicity\, sexual orientation\, and other dimensions of identity. Efforts to improve women representation in the senior ranks of healthcare management must include women from all backgrounds and experiences. When intersectionality considerations are incorporated into gender equity strategies\, organizations can reap tangible\, proven benefits including better talent recruitment and retention\, stronger DEI outcomes\, and improved organizational performance. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nDefine the concepts of gender equity and intersectionality in the context of healthcare leadership\nCurrent state of women in healthcare management\, including data and research on women of color and women with differing abilities and sexual orientation\nThe essential role of allies—men and non-racially diverse persons—in the gender equity and intersectionality work\nHow gender equity and intersectionality may fit into an organization’s traditional diversity and inclusion strategies and initiatives\nHow incorporating gender equity and intersectionality principles can enhance talent management\, support DEI goals and improve organizational performance\nThe disparate impact on women of color and women with differing abilities and sexual orientations regarding key aspects of gender diversity\, such as pay equity\, positions on boards\, promotion\, recruitment\, selection and mentoring/sponsorship\nOrganizational benefits of effective application of gender equity and intersectionality principles\nResources and tools to change organizational culture\, policies and procedures to address structural racism and sexism\n\nThis program is valued as 1.5 Hours of ACHE Face to Face Credits\n\nRegistration\nACHE\, ASHHRA\, NAHSE\, NESHS and Hospital Association Members\n$35.00 \nFuture Members\n$70.00 \nClick Here to Register Now!\nWe are proud to partner with ASHHRA to offer this program!  \n \n\nMeet Our Speakers\n  \nChineye Anako\, MPH\, CHES\nRegional Director for Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion\nTrinity Health Of New England\n \nChineye Anako is a public health practitioner whose work has focused on the intersection of public health and health equity solutions. SUMMARY:Saving Our Moms: Organizational Strategies to improve Maternal Health Outcomes\, hosted by NAHSE Greater Boston Chapter
DESCRIPTION:Recent data show that U.S. maternal mortality rates are rising\, and Black\, American Indian\, and Alaska Native people giving birth are two to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than their white counterparts. Emerging data also indicate that implications of the COVID-19 pandemic may further exacerbate these disparities. With that being said\, the NAHSE Greater Boston Chapter has implemented an “immediate call to action” since its inception in 2020 to discuss the ongoing disparities in Maternal Health Outcomes\, and how we could begin reshaping the Maternal Health care delivery model to improve birth outcomes. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn organizational strategies to strengthen healthcare leadership and workforce structures\nGain knowledge and skills to deal effectively with cultural differences to improve maternal health outcomes\nGain an understanding of barriers among patients\, providers\, and the U.S. health care system in relation to racial/ethnic disparities in health care and quality of care\nLearn evidence-based best practices to conceptualize cultural competence and culturally appropriate care\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW! \n\nConfirmed Speaker \nShafia Monroe\, DEM\, CDT\, MPH \nShafia Monroe is a renowned midwife\, doula trainer\, Master of Public Health\, motivational speaker\, and writer. She began studying midwifery as a teenager after learning about the high infant mortality rate in her city. Though born in Boston\, Massachusetts\, she recognizes her Alabama roots and practices traditional African American healing\, using the laying on of hands and herbs for pregnant and postpartum families. She was called to midwifery at age 15\, when she learned about infant mortality and the granny midwives of the 20th century. Monroe is the keeper of African American birth traditions and postpartum rituals. She has spent over three decades studying the life of the 20th -century African American midwife and traveled internationally\, interviewing\, and shadowing midwives to learn their cultural rituals firsthand. \nUnder Monroe’s leadership\, ICTC increased the number of doulas of color\, Black midwives\, diversified the midwifery workforce\, and challenged systemic racism within the profession. From 2002 to 2015\, she directed the International Black Midwives and Healers Conference and recruited Erykah Badu\, four-time Grammy award-winner\, singer\, songwriter\, and holistic healer\, to become the ICTC International Spokesperson from 2010 to 2015. Monroe also led the Oregon Coalition to Improve Birth Outcomes (OCIBO) in 2011\, investigating the use of doulas to improve birth outcomes and creating the legislative concept HB3311. This work resulted in Medicaid reimbursement for Oregon doulas\, with Oregon leading the national model by being the first state to cover doula services for Medicaid families. In 2002\, Monroe developed a groundbreaking doula-training program as an international model for reducing infant mortality\, increasing the number of doulas of color\, empowering families for informed consent and physiological birth\, and teaching traditional birth and postpartum practices using the legacy of the 20th -century African American midwife\, the SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training\, LLC. She created Shafia Monroe Consulting/Birthing CHANGE in 2013\, to train health care providers and doulas in cultural competency for working with diverse population in maternal and child health and improve perinatal outcomes. \nMonroe proudly serves as an advisory member of the Oregon Health Authority Office of Equity and Inclusion’s Cultural Competence Continuing Education Advisory Committee\, Oregon Islamic Chaplain Organization\, the Oregon Community Doula Association\, Alabama Birth Equity Committee\, Black Mamas Matter Alliance\, Black Mothers ACTT for Safe Care Initiative\, and a board member of the National Accreditation Council for Black Doula Trainers. \n
