SUMMARY:2019 Fall Conference: Social Determinants of Health: What they are\, why they matter and what health systems are doing
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 1\, 2019\n7:00 AM – Noon\nSheraton Needham Hotel\n100 Cabot Street\, Needham\, MA\n(Continental breakfast and lunch included.) \nHealthcare systems bear growing economic risk under contracts with third party payors and government programs. Focusing on medical care delivery alone is not an effective way of managing population health. Studies show that overall health is primarily — about 60% — determined by the social\, economic\, and physical conditions in the environments in which people live\, learn\, work\, play and worship. \nSOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH (SDOH) include: housing safety\, food availability\, education access/quality\, job opportunities\, healthcare access\, public safety (crime and violence)\, transportation\, recreational opportunities\, social supports and social stressors (such as racial and other forms of discrimination). \nStrategies for addressing SDOH include behavior change interventions (including personalized feedback\, health coaching\, social support for physical activity\, adequate sleep\, weight management\, diabetes management\,  diet counseling and stress management) as well as support products and services (such as mobile health\, websites\, other computer-based applications\, text messaging\, wearable devices\, body and environmental sensors\, and telecommunications). \nThis conference will assist you in understanding the most effective responses to SDOH that will result in improved care\, lower costs\, and better quality of life for the populations we serve. \nOnline Registration \nKeynote Speakers\n\nSandro Galea\, MD\, MPH\, DrPh\, Dean and Robert A. SUMMARY:ACHE of MA Panel Series Presented by the ECN: The Future of Accountable Care
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 12\, 2019\nShriners Hospital\n5:30 PM – 8:00 PM\nShriners Auditorium\n51 Blossom Street\nBoston\, MA\nDirections \nAccountable care organizations cover over 10% of the US population and span across all payer sources: commercial\, Medicare\, and Medicaid. As the population ages and lives longer\, it’s more important now than ever to effectively manage and coordinate care across the continuum. Medicaid beneficiaries with a behavioral health diagnosis account for almost half of Medicaid spending\, yet traditional fee-for-service programs boast little to no incentive to coordinate care for this population. The launch of the ACO Certification program in 2017 made Massachusetts the first state to have statewide\, all-payer standards for care delivery. The programs continue to grow as payer reform continues and primary care providers become the quarterbacks of their patients’ care delivery\, yet significant challenges still exist as patients transition across multiple providers\, organizations and care settings. \nJoin ACHE of Massachusetts for a live panel series discussion designed to spark intriguing discussion around the future of accountable care in Massachusetts\, what health care leaders in the state are doing to manage their ACO population\, and how they establish a standard of brand equity and care across providers and settings. How will traditionally disparate organizations re-engineer communication? What types of careers will be created as a result of this paradigm shift? How do we truly integrate acute to post-acute\, and where do we go from here? \nWhy Attend?\n\nUnderstand the role of accountable care\, risk-based care models\, and community-based care in creating careers in healthcare\nLearn how local organizations are integrating care throughout their organization\nObtain long term career advancement strategies relating to accountable care\nCollaborate and network with fellow professionals who are passionate about healthcare\n\nSpeakers\n\nRachel Rosenblum\nChief Operating Officer\nAtrius Health\nJessica Dudley\, MD\nChief Medical Officer\nBrigham and Women’s Physician Organization\nRobin Hynds\, MSN\, RN\, CPHM\nVice President of Care Continuum and Network Development\nLawrence General Hospital\nChristine Rooney\, MD\nDirector of Clinical Initiatives & School Based Health Centers\, Great Lawrence Family Health Center & Director of Behavioral Health & Home Health\, My Care Family ACO\nCo-moderators\nNicholas D’Addabbo\nDirector of Clinical Strategy\nNizhoni Health\nShalina Patel\nProject Coordinator\nBrigham and Women’s Physicians Organization\n\nSpeaker Bios \nAgenda\n\n\n\n5:30 to 6:30 PM\nRegistration/Networking\n\n\n6:30 to 8:00 PM\nPanel Discussion and Q&A\n\n\n\n\nInvestment\n$5 ACHE & BYHP Student Members\n$15 Student Non-members\n$20 ACHE of Massachusetts/ACHE Members & BYHP Members\n$30 Non-members \n*Please note: Price will increase to $30 for all attendees on Wednesday\, September 11\, 2019. \nCANCELLATION: To cancel your registration\, please notify us in writing no later than one week prior to the event for a refund\, less a $5 nonrefundable processing. SUMMARY:ACHE of MA Fall Conference 2018 Co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association: Disruptive Technology: Healthcare’s Savior?
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 1\, 2018\n7:00 AM – Noon\nDoubleTree by Hilton\n5400 Computer Drive\, Westborough\, MA\n(Continental breakfast and lunch included.) \nPowerful entrenched special interests have defeated efforts to reform the US health care system back to the days of FDR’s Administration. Just since 1960\, US healthcare spending has risen from $27B to $3\,500B\, increasing the annual spend per US resident from $150 to over $10\,000! Healthcare’s share of our GDP has grown from a hefty 5% to a gigantic 19%. The voracious healthcare beast is starving other vital social needs\, with catastrophic results for our citizens\, businesses and government and even our own health care industry. \n \nYet\, while the national spending is rocketing upward\, US national health status\, which was only mediocre to begin with\, is getting worse and life expectancies are going down. According to the WHO’s ranking of the world’s health systems\, the US only ranked #37\, behind Andorra (#4)\, Greece (#14)\, Columbia (#22)\, Cyprus (#24)\, Morocco (#29) and Costa Rica (#36)\, and just one notch above Slovenia (#38). \nEnter disruptive technologies and innovation: artificial intelligence\, genomic engineering\, miniaturization\, big data\, and new pharmaceuticals. Massive investments are being made by all sorts of economic sectors inside and outside the health care industry — venture capital firms\, big pharma\, small start-ups\, IT\, backyard /garage incubators\, government payers\, commercial payers\, and academic medical centers\, all searching for the same thing: Higher quality\, better outcomes\, more access\, lower costs and happier/healthier patients. \nThis conference continues ACHE of Massachusetts’ focus on the people and companies making this all happen and who will either constructively contribute to the new health care paradigm (and spend billions doing it) or go down trying. This is another “Can’t Miss” conference for leaders of health care organizations that don’t want to be left behind in the cyberdust! \nKeynotes\n\nMichael Weissel\, Executive Vice President\, Optum\nTerri Bresenham\, Chief Innovation Officer\, GE Healthcare\n\nPanelists\n\nChris Coburn\, Chief Innovation Officer\, Partners HealthCare and President\, Partners HealthCare International\nPatricia Forts\, Deputy Chief of Innovation and Strategy\, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care\nIyah Romm\, Founder and CEO\, City Block\nMason Russell\, Portfolio Leader of Global Value and Market Access\, IBM Watson Health\nSarah Sossong\, FACHE\, Principal\, Flare Capital Partners\nModerator: Peter Shorett\, Senior Partner\, The Chartis Group\n\nSpeaker Bios \nAgenda\n\n\n\n7:00 AM\nRegistration\, Breakfast and Networking\n\n\n7:30 AM\nOpening Remarks\, Service Awards and Annual Meeting \n\nAndrea Paciello\, FACHE\, ACHE of MA President\, Executive Director\, Teaching & Education\, Massachusetts General Hospital\n\n\n\n\n8:00 AM\nMichael Weissel\n\n\n8:45 AM\nTerri Bresenham\n\n\n9:30 AM\nNetworking Break\n\n\n10:00 AM\nPanel Discussion\n\n\n11:45 AM\nClosing Remarks\n\n\n11:50 PM\nLunch\n\n\n\nInvestment\n$199 ACHE of Massachusetts/ACHE Members\n$199 MHA Members\n$299 Non-members (Join ACHE to receive the Member Rate.)\n*$35 Healthcare Administration Students and those “In Transition”\n*Students must be in a full-time Healthcare Administration Master’s Program. SUMMARY:ACHE of Massachusetts Spring Conference 2018: The New Healthcare Paradigm and Organizations That Are Shaping It
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 4\, 2018\n7:30 AM – Noon PM\nDoubleTree by Hilton\n5400 Computer Drive\, Westborough\, MA\n(Continental breakfast and lunch included.) \nA 6% increase per year in US health care costs over the next decade is projected\, bringing health care’s share of our GNP from 19% to 25% – when for the rest of the industrialized would it is only 6-10%. And\, despite this massive spend\, US still ranks as the unhealthiest nation in the industrialized world. \nCongress plans to take up “Entitlements Reform” next – threatening massive cuts to Medicare and Medicaid just as 80 million Baby Boomers enter their 70’s and 80’s – the peak years for health care needs. \nSomething has got to give! The whole health care industry – big pharma\, medical device manufacturers\, providers\, and insurance companies – will need to make radical changes. \nEnter disruptive innovators: Big Data and new payment models that demand control of total medical expense while providing higher quality and greater access. Increasing volume\, visits and procedures to generate revenue will not work. The future must focus on the real determinates of health: Behavior\, Engagement and Environment. \nACHE of MA’s Spring Conference will focus on organizations and individuals that are successfully implementing changes and creating The Future of Health Care in America. Pay attention to this paradigm shift – or risk becoming the next incandescent light bulb! \nKeynote Speakers\n Troyen Brennan\, MD\, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer\, CVS Health \n  \n  \n  \nPatrick Gilligan\, Executive Vice President of Sales\, Marketing & Product\, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts \n  \n  \n  \nPanel Discussion\n\nModerator: Peter Shorett\, Senior Partner\, The Chartis Group\nAlastair Bell\, MD\, Executive Vice President\, Strategy and Chief Operating Officer\, Boston Medical Center\nJan Bruce\, Founder & CEO\, meQuilibrium\nJohn Moore\, MD\, CMO\, Fitbit (Previously Co-Founder & CEO\, Twine Health which was bought by Fitbit)\nAndrew Schutzbank\, MD\, MPH\, Vice President\, Product\, Iora Health\nDavid Seltz\, Executive Director\, Massachusetts Health Policy Commission\n\n \nSpeaker Bios \nAgenda\n\n\n\n7:30 to 8:00 AM\nRegistration\, Breakfast and Networking\n\n\n8:00 to 8:15 AM\nOpening Remarks & Kinzer Awards \n\nAndrea Paciello\, FACHE\, ACHE of MA President\, Executive Director\, Teaching & Education\, Massachusetts General Hospital\n\n\n\n\n8:15 to 9:00 AM\nTroyen Brennan\, MD\n\n\n9:00 to 9:45 AM\nPatrick Gilligan\n\n\n9:45 to 10:15 AM\nNetworking Break – Visit Our Sponsor Tables\n\n\n10:15 to Noon\nPanel Discussion\n\n\nNoon – Closing\nClosing Remarks & Optional Lunch\n\n\n\nInvestment\n$199 ACHE of Massachusetts/ACHE Members\n$299 Non-members (Join ACHE to receive the Member Rate.)\n*$35 Healthcare Administration Students and those “In Transition”\n*Students must be in a full-time Healthcare Administration Master’s Program.
