Knowing Your How
Health care is a calling, not a career.
Whether at the bedside, the bench or in the board room, each of us have chosen to dedicate the best of ourselves in service to creating generational health, hope and healing.
One thing I have noticed over the course of several conversations with colleagues throughout the health care diaspora is that, while we may be clear about our WHY, things are sometimes a little less so when it comes to our HOW. How am I going to cultivate a new generation of physicians/clinicians/nurses/researchers/leaders? How am I going to champion innovation with the right tension between discernment and acceleration? How am I going to stay connected with the latest happenings in the industry? How do I build my leadership toolkit for my continuous improvement? How do I create human and financial resilience within my organization? Oh, and how do I do this while getting enough rest, staying hydrated, eating right, and maintaining good, old-fashioned relationships?
The American College of Healthcare Executives and our dynamic Massachusetts Chapter recognize the importance of understanding both the purpose and the methods behind leadership. They are here to help you find your “how,” both as leaders and as people. From tools to assess your leadership competencies, to the latest thought leadership on AI integration in the health care space, ACHE has the resources and research to empower you as you navigate the health care landscape. One of the greatest resources I have found to revitalize my leadership “how” is by taking part in the ACHE Annual Congress. This year’s powerhouse event is set for March 24-27 in Houston and is a must. It answers the “how,” bringing together over 6,000 leaders from across the globe and health care domains, sharing challenges, ideas, solutions and spurring innovative thinking. The network you build through Congress and our local ACHE Chapter Events are the most valuable investments you make in your career, as well as in yourself. Many incredible friendships have developed through the ACHE mentorship program, as well as through conversations during our Chapter events, or while volunteering on one of our committees.
Knowing how to do something is just as vital as knowing why we do something. ACHE and ACHE of Massachusetts are here to help. Let me know if you will be joining me in Houston for Congress, and we can make it a point to meet for a glass of water. Together, we can make sure our why, how, and hydration are well supported in the year ahead!
With warmth,
Justine
